Sexual Offender Registration
Attorney Joshua Davidson explains Arizona's laws on sexual offender registration.
Beginning approximately ten years ago, Arizona became a mandatory registration state meaning that if you have been convicted, regardless to how long ago it may have been, of certain sex related offenses that you have to register with the sheriff in the county where you reside. If you move you have 72 hours to notify the sheriff of your new address.
If you were convicted in another state and you’re entering the state of Arizona and you’re living here perhaps for the first time, you have ten days to notify the sheriff. There are other requirements as well, if you do not adhere to any of these requirements regarding your registration regardless of how much time has passed since you were convicted of whatever offense you were required to register for, you can be charged with a felony offense for failure to register.
